Looking for a 6v6 DotA Game?

Channel 6v6DotA** January 4, 2010
We now have a GHost++ bot hosting 6v6 DotA games on USEast, USWest, and Europe Battle.net realms. If you are looking to play a game of 6v6 DotA but you don't want to host the map yourself, then you can join channel "6v6DotA" on any of the three realms to find out when the next game is being hosted.

If you happen to be running a bot of your own, then feel free to move your bot to this channel to announce your new games being hosted as well.

** January 10, 2010
If the bot is not in the channel, then that means it is currently hosting a game. To find out what game is being hosted, type /whereis BotName in Battle.net.

** March 12, 2010
Here are a list of bots that are currently hosting 6v6 DotA games.

6v6DotA on USWest, USEast, Europe - Admin GoD-Tony - offline
ghostlj on USEast, Europe - Admin lordrt - online
ghostlj2 on USWest, USEast - Admin lordrt - online
ghostlj3 on USWest - Admin lordrt - online
CasperBot1 on USEast - Admin GNTV_Casper - online

If you have a bot you would like to add to this list, please post it in the comments section below.

The 6.66 map is out. "Evil name" edition. What's the outlook on getting a 6v6 version?

ty.

Btw, a short summary of my 2 weeks of hosting 6v6 games:

8564 ppl have downloaded the 6.65 6v6 map. 457 games were played, with 4134 players total; 810 played more than once. The percentage of repeaters has steadily been increasing towards 20%.

It takes about a week for enough ppl to have the map. And nost still dl from the bot.

January 14, 2010 at 6:20 PM GoD-Tony said...

Yea the worst part about users having to download the map is that DotA's filesize is getting bigger with every release; almost up to 7mb now.

One thing I wanted to mention is that when I went to watch your replay, it was looking for the 6v6 map in some non-default directory. Just to make sure, double check that the map config on your bot has a line that looks like this:

map_path = Maps\Download\DotA_Allstars_v6.66_6v6.w3x

You might have left out the Download part of it. I can't remember but this might force users to re-download the map even if they already have it, only because it's being looked for in the wrong folder.

January 14, 2010 at 11:30 PM lordrt said...

Yes, I did leave "Download" out. The bot is a bit messy with UNIX paths ("/" instead of "\") and I could not get it to work last time.

It seems:
- if map_local_path is set, that is used as the filename to fetch the map
- if not, that path is constructed from ghost path + "\maps\" + map_path
- but map_path is the string saved into the replay

So, I set map_local_path with forward slashes (so that the file is found) and map_path with backlashes so the replay works - I hope -- we'll see after a few games.

I'll try to patch the bot to handle this automatically when I figure it out.

Thx you for the 6.66 number of the beastmaster release, and have a good one!

Also, I've set my bot to join the "6v6Dota" channle on northrend now.

January 28, 2010 at 4:44 AM lordrt said...

I've written a small patch for ghost++ that allows the bot to rotate game modes (-apemso, -apso, -rdso, ..). This should help more ppl enjoy 6v6 with the small set of spare cd keys I have.

It's controlled by two existing ghost.cfg settings:
bot_defaultmap = dota_666_6v6-apemso.cfg,dota_666_6v6-apso.cfg,dota_666_6v6-rdso.cfg
autohost_gamename = DotA - 6v6 - $HCL$

I'm still testing it, and should have it in a few days. If you're interested or have suggestions, pls comment. Ty.

I saw your post on the codelain forums here: http://goo.gl/3jFa

Nice job. I'll see if I'm able to implement this in my bot as well.

I can't join this game anymore and it's b/c i was using the RC version of Win 7 at the time which expired on March 1st (which was when I got banned from the game) I'm playing on USEast and would like to be unbanned. my id is djkant. Please verify when i was banned b/c I never leave games and the fact that I'm making this post should be evidence that i'm not a leaver.

March 8, 2010 at 6:14 PM GoD-Tony said...

Do you know which bot you were playing on? My bot (6v6DotA) doesn't ban users, but I'm sure a 6v6 bot owner will unban you when they see your message.

March 9, 2010 at 2:19 AM Igor Kolar said...

@djkant: you've been unbanned on my bot (ign: ghostlj, it's on useast and europe)

Hey, is the bot down? When I go to the 6v6dota channel nobody is there and /whereis 6v6dota says that user is not online. Did I get banned for some reason? My username is 1TrickPony. I'm not a leaver, don't feed/noob/be a jerk, and I really love playing 6v6 games. Thanks so much for hosting.

March 10, 2010 at 8:08 AM GoD-Tony said...

Yes the bot is currently offline. I have made an announcement about it in the post above. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

March 10, 2010 at 4:34 PM Djkant said...

Hi Lord rt, I still can't join in Ghostij's games. Is there something I need to do on my end?

March 10, 2010 at 5:35 PM lord rt said...

Djkant - which realm (europe or useast)?
Drop me a mail to lordrts@gmail.com or find me on europe.battle.net. I should be able to resolve any problems on the spot.

March 11, 2010 at 7:44 PM Igor Kolar said...

@God-Tony - a friend lent me a VPS based on the east coast, but it took me until now to get ghost++ compiled on the Debian Lenny Linux installed there (a bucketload of shit that was). IGN ghostlj2, connected to both useast and west, and running the latest war3 patch. It alternates between apso and apemso.

No banlist or admins yet - can anyonen help me with that?

18 games underway in about 2 hours -looks like all is ok.

March 12, 2010 at 1:23 AM GoD-Tony said...

Thanks lordrt for the help. I've posted your new bot in the latest post so people are aware of it.

March 12, 2010 at 2:30 PM Igor Kolar said...

Btw, if you want, when the new map is out, i can change the ghostlj2 bot to "Download only" for about week. I can also add it to the Asian realm for that purpose. I don't have a server in Asia capable of hosting, tho (ping), but maybe someone else could help out.

March 12, 2010 at 11:14 PM djkant said...

Still no luck lord rt. Can't join the ghostij 6 v 6 apemso games.

It's the USEast realm.

March 13, 2010 at 8:29 PM GoD-Tony said...

@lordrt: If your ghostlj2 bot gets good pings on US east and west, then maybe you should just leave it at hosting games as it is now.

Since my home connection doesn't seem to be reliable for hosting games, I can run one or two download bots on it. That way we don't sacrifice the good hosting bots for download games.

hey i just became an admin but i never got the email lordrt

March 14, 2010 at 11:42 PM lord rt said...

@Eric: email sent.

@God-Tony:

1. I've joined a couple of games today and pings were decent; ok then I'll keep the server running.

2. As for map downloads:
- I can set up a http mirror for your maps at Kiberpipa, a sort-of multimedia center in Ljubljana. It's backed by the University and has a decent uplink
- I can also run a dl-only bot there, and it wont affect the ping of my bots as they're on a different network now. I can even give you a shell account and set up a bot for you (you'll will need cd keys, though), if you'd like.

3. I'd be more interested in merging the stats from your bots and mine and creating some sort of ladder / allstats page here. I would require you to periodically send me a diff of your sqlite (?) database. You interested?

March 19, 2010 at 8:53 PM Igor Kolar said...

Btw would it be possible to host a list of top players on this server?

March 21, 2010 at 2:29 AM lord rt said...

@God-Tony: I've added a third bot - it rotates between the less common modes: -ap (no switch), -arso, -aremso, -sdemso and -rdemso. IGN ghostlj3. Can you pls add it to the listing?

It's US WEST only for now; when I get extra cd keys I'll add it to the other two realms.

March 21, 2010 at 8:43 AM GoD-Tony said...

@lordrt: Another mirror sounds good, and if you can throw a download only bot on there then thats even better :). I'll have to see if I can some spare cdkey sets around here, I know I used to anyway.

My bot doesn't really keep track of stats, the only thing that's saved is the number of games played by each player. I can't get better stats because I don't think I can get a custom Ghost build running on that server.

How do you want to host a list of the top players? Do you mean on this website? If you had a JSON type of way to access the top 10 list then that would be pretty cool to add on this site.

ghostlj3 is added to the list.

March 23, 2010 at 4:00 AM lord rt said...

Simplistic http mirror, for now:
-> http://ike.kiberpipa.org/dota/maps/

I'll give you sftp access, to upload new maps.

In re stats: the ghost bot keeps a ghost.dbs file with everything needed - do you not have access to it?

JSON - give me specs and I'll make it.

March 23, 2010 at 5:04 PM GoD-Tony said...

I have access to the sqlite file, but it doesn't record "dotastats" because it's only meant for 5v5, so it's not much use.

March 23, 2010 at 6:04 PM lord rt said...

Jees, I fixed statsdota.cpp (colours 6, 11) so long ago I completely forgot about that :/ But I could reconstruct the game from the logs, if you could give me access to those ..

Also, can you send me the JSON specs for the stats (+ example)?

Perhaps it would be better to take this conversation to email or mirc? lordrts at gmail.com .

March 23, 2010 at 6:14 PM GoD-Tony said...

Yes I had it fixed as well, but I don't have permission to put a modified executable on the server I'm running ghost on, so I can't run stats even if I wanted to.

I'll fire off an email with the JSON specs for the Top10 list when I get a chance.

Sounds like you're having a problem with ports. You'll be able to find people to help you with Ghost on the codelain forums.

March 27, 2010 at 11:56 PM Brax48 said...

thats not the problem, as i have the ports already open. however, usually the last 2 digits are 1.1, but mine is different. when i set it to 1.1 it says 'cannot use the same ip as the router'. Would you happen to know how to fix that? or should i google ftw? lol
